Traveling the world and finding humanity.
“Traveling not only forces us to consider practical solutions from many perspectives, but also allows us to find our humanity.”
Jackson’s essay was about a boy he saw on a train from Dehli, India. The boy was about his age. He was disabled and begging for money. The pain and suffering of hunger that radiated from the deep, hollow eyes of that boy stirred Jackson’s view of the world. He now reflects more deeply about the problems he sees around him and takes time to consider effective solutions.
He was able to learn these lessons and undergo such reflections only because he was given the opportunity to see the world in its beauty and its hardship. Jackson says that traveling not only forces us all to consider practical solutions from many perspectives, but also allows us to find our humanity.
Jackson now attends the Mahindra United World College of India. He is grateful to the SYTA Youth Foundation for giving him more opportunities to see the world.
