Class of 2020
Was your students' senior class trip canceled as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic? If so, the SYTA Youth Foundation wants to hear from your students.
The Class of 2020 Scholarship is made available to Class of 2020 High School Seniors. Seniors who had their trip canceled are encouraged to submit an essay focusing on what they feel would have been the benefits of that missed travel experience and why school travel is important to students today.
The winning Class of 2020 essay will be published in Teach & Travel magazine and a $1,500 scholarship will be provided to the student author.
Application period is now closed. The author of the winning essay will be notified the week of December 14, 2020.
Class of 2020 Scholarship Rules:
A $1,500 USD scholarship will be awarded to the author of the winning essay. The prize-winning essay will also be featured in Teach & Travel magazine during the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Essays in 2nd through 5th place will also receive a $1,000 USD scholarship.
A panel of judges will evaluate Class of 2020 entries based on criteria of legibility, sincerity, creativity and content.
How to enter
Any student who was a high school senior at a public or private academic institution during spring 2020 may submit an entry through the online form below. Essays should not exceed 525 words. Students cannot begin an online application, save changes and return later to complete it. Changes will not be saved to an application. Once submitted, an application cannot be changed. If you must make changes to your submitted application, please notify SYF staff.
No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win this contest. Only one entry is allowed per person.
Multiple entries are not accepted and could result in disqualification. Employees of SYTA, SYTA member companies, immediate family members, business partners, contest sponsors, and contest judges are not eligible and may not participate in this contest as an entrant. Entries must be received by the deadline. Income and other taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. This contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws. Void where restricted or prohibited. All entries become the property of SYTA Youth Foundation and will not be acknowledged or returned. SYF reserves all publication rights thereof.
Acceptance of the prize constitutes consent to use the winner’s name for editorial or publicity purposes without further compensation, except where restricted or prohibited. The winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and liability release, which must be returned within 21 days, or an alternate winner may be chosen. The Student & Youth Travel Association and SYF reserve the right to edit submitted content to align with our editorial standards.
The Class of 2020 application period is open October 12, 2020 – November 30, 2020. The author of the winning essay will be notified the week of December 14, 2020.
